It's been a hectic week and I haven't been getting much sleep, intended to sleep early during the weekend especially since I'll be waking up early for the next week, but here I am. I shall start from..sunday.
Went for dinner at marina square. We ate at this restaurant which mostly specialised in desserts but the normal food was good as well. The chocolate sundae was super chocolatey, and to make it better it came with another cup of chocolate =D
There was some media thingy going on too. A few celebrities were there, gurmit singh, adrian pang and..someone else that I can't remember lol. Doesn't matter. It was amusing watching them trying to get each other to fill in the lyrics of songs and coming up with crappy lyrics haha. For some reason gurmit kept spinning round and round on his chair o.o
Past week has been sabbatical week, was attached to a professor at NUS so I had to go there at like 9 everyday till 2. The professor I was attached to was specialised in nanoscience. The good thing is that it's interesting because it's something that I haven't learnt about before, the bad thing is that because it's nano, we had to use the electron microscope to actually see the products, and that only happened on the last day.
These colourful vials are things called quantum dots. Basically they're nano particles made up of a core and a shell around 5nanometres in diameter. The main use of these dots are that they can absorb a certainly wavelength of light and emit a different wavelength depending on their size and everything. So you can like, attach them to proteins to see how the proteins travel in your body or something. And you can use them as leds to because the colour is supposed to be much more saturated.
Then there's the liquid nitrogen which is just fun to play with.
There was another student who was making gold nanoparticles, and the difference is just that they emit heat instead of light. So you can like, inject it into a cancerous area and when you shine infrared light at that spot the cancer cells will be burnt. The only reason why it isn't being used is that it's inefficient or something. But then again, still interesting lol.
This is the electron microscope which occupies one whole room, costs a few million dollars to buy and 50 dollars per hour to use. Never thought they had to pay to use such stuff.
And this is what they put the samples on, it's some copper and carbon thing, it's like a mesh with 300 grids on it so when they look through the microscope they have to look through 300 grids to find what they're looking for. If you think this thing is very big, it's roughly the size of that eraser on those mechanical pencils.
During the week there was something else happening, gabra gabra in boarding school lol. We just played games between floors, like a competition. I played..risk and taboo. Got overall 3rd for risk and 2nd for taboo. F1 was second..runner up.
The whole week was kinda fun and interesting, only thing was that I had to juggle so much stuff that resulted in my late sleeping times. Good thing I got to wake up later.
Friday's flag raising was quite..amusing. There was this guy who read an announcement super monotonously and it sounded like microsoft narrator. Mac despises microsoft lol, they underline the word microsoft in red. Also on Friday, two of the students at NUS were talking about two other students on the bus. The two students on the bus were complaining about a guy who told them 0.1ml is 10 microlitres. So he asked me how many microlitres 0.1ml is and then said that I surpassed university standard o.o
Did proed cip today which was collecting newspapers at taman jurong. Business was very good, and one of those karang gunis came to us and asked us how we managed to get so many, she even asked how much we paid the residents. Then there was this kind woman who came with bags of clothes to give to us at the lobby. And there's this even kinder woman who wanted to give zi song and I 10 dollars to bring our juniors to chi fan. We kept rejecting her and she kept insisting, in the end she left it on the stack of newspapers and zi song chased after her to return it to her. She came back and did the same thing so we donated the money. Zi song was terribly lame today, we were talking about results and I said that he is god, then he said that god is someone else so I called him goddess, and he said he's the goddess that stays with gordon.
The week has managed to keep me distracted so far, but then again distractions are only temporary. And being stressed due to the many things I had to do wasn't fun either. I doubt I'll have time to finish my holiday homework. I wonder why I even have holiday homework, it isn't even the holidays yet. Oh well.
Well, life goes on, but whether I want it to or not is another matter.
